PBIS Wave Energy Reading Activity- It Says, I Know, And So...

  • Characteristics of Waves: pgs. 165-170

  • Sound: pgs. 156-161, 171-174

  • Light: pgs. 182, 184, 193-196


Purpose: Analyze and compare 3 main topics …

  1. Wave Characteristics

  2. Sound

  3. Light


Task: Create space for a one pager in your journal (front & back) to take notes on each of the three topics above.

Activity: Write notes in each of the following categories for each of the topics above as you read.

 

It Says… (understanding from text)

  • Document new learning from what you read about each topic

  • Tip- use the “stop and think questions” to guide your thinking, but don’t stop there if you want comprehensive notes.

  • Lots of facts documented from book 


I know… (background knowledge)

  • Based on your notes & reading, pull from background information and previous life experiences to make connections to the topic

  • Some things explained from your memory of previous events and background knowledge


And so… (inferences & new judgements)

  • Make an inference and take a stab at some new learning that could result from combining the “It Says” and “I know” sections.

  • One or two new ideas that you thought about


Challenge: You must decide which topic to categorize each note in the “It Says…” section.
